First United Methodist Church of Bennettsville Howard Hucks Endowment
Howard Hucks was a hard working man beloved by many in Marlboro County. After 4 years of service in WWII, he took a job at the local lumber company and stayed there for 48 years. In his retirement, he worked for 18 years for a local attorney. At 92, he was forced to retire for good when he became disabled and was more concerned about giving up his job than he was about his illness. During those 56 years of working, he also took care of family members, undertook historical research projects and was devoted to the First United Methodist Church of Bennettsville. When he died in 2016, the church received a bequested gift and started an endowment fund at ECCF in order to memorialize Mr. Hucks’s devotion to his church, his family and his hometown.
