Cupid’s arrow has a way of landing where it wants, when it wants. I was scheduled to meet with Dr. Lorin Mason in early February to establish a fund in honor and memory of his late wife, Bebe Daniel Mason. But fate pushed the date back to Wednesday, February 14 and Dr. Mason’s tribute became a beautiful valentine.
From the moment I walked into the Mason home in Pawleys Island, it was obvious that this new donor advised fund would be a special valentine to a beautiful woman who still inspired much love and devotion. The Bebe Daniel Mason Fund will assist disadvantaged Marion County residents with basic needs. Mrs. Mason’s family was from Mullins, and Dr. Mason grew up in Marion. Both were familiar and saddened by the slow economic decline in Marion County which changed the thriving, prosperous communities where they had grown up.
Bebe Daniel Mason is described as being a devoted wife and loving mother, who possessed great physical beauty matched in quality by her heart and soul. She returned to nursing school after raising her children and in 1983 became a hospice nurse working throughout the Pee Dee.
The best part of this marriage? The love that will be spread throughout Marion County through important services for years to come. Eastern Carolina Community Foundation looks forward to working with the Mason family to explore how their fund can make a long-term impact on the issues that matter to them.
